PURPLE FRAMES COLLECTION
COLLECTION STATEMENT: Immerse yourself in STEEP Daniels' vibrant homage to American rock icon Prince through The Purple Frames Collection—a series of seven paintings. Born on June 7th, just like Prince, Daniels dedicated 777 days to this vivid visual narrative, capturing the essence of Prince's life and music. These artworks serve as a dynamic timeline, depicting key moments in Prince's journey with bursts of color. Inspired by the artist's themes, each painting vividly portrays Prince on stage and navigating life's stages. The number 777 symbolizes personal transformation and success, guiding Daniels throughout the project. Beyond art, the Purple Frames Collection fuels 777OVERCOMING, a social enterprise supporting children's initiatives with a goal of $777,000.00. Launching on the 777th day since Prince's passing, the collection aligns with both birthdays, marking the start of impactful fundraisers, including skateboarding for SickKids and a groundbreaking skydiving event that raised $45,000. In 2024, the artistic journey continues, aiming to share this inspiring story globally through a documentary. The Purple Frames Collection stands as a vibrant tribute, echoing Prince's legacy and fostering positive change.
ARTIST STATEMENT: The Purple Frames Collection is a deeply personal journey to me. This collection serves as a visual timeline, celebrating Prince's impactful moments through bursts of color and vivid depictions. Themes from his music are gloriously portrayed, capturing Prince's essence on stage and in various stages of life. For me, this collection holds a profound place in my heart, rooted in a commitment and dedication that unfolded over 777 days. Each morning at 5 am, I pondered the question, "What would Prince do?"—a contemplation seeking meaning for the compelled creation of these seven artworks. The number 777 came to me underneath a bridge, as a rebuttle to the 666 graffiti, leading to a positive correlation that became a powerful symbol. Working on seven paintings, sharing a birthday with Prince, and the approaching year 2017, I embraced the significance of 777—representing transformation, success, and new spiritual insights. As we step into the future, the journey continues, pushing boundaries to share this story globally through a documentary. The Purple Frames Collection stands as a testament to personal reflection, dedication, and the transformative power of art, echoing Prince's legacy in every brushstroke. Currently, five paintings from the collection are still available.
